Indonesia is an attractive tropical country to foreign tourism due to its pristine archipelagos like Raja Ampat Islands or its cultural cities like Yogyakarta. The country is also well known for its famous Komodo Island, which is the only place on the planet where the Komodo dragon can be found.

Launched a few years ago by geographer Topi Tjukanov, the #30DayMapChallenge has taken the geovisual world by storm. With participants from all over the globe, the Twitter event challenges people to try out new tools and to get creative with map-making. We set out to only do a few maps, but ended up, to our own surprise, completing all 30 days. The #30DayMapChallenge made its return in November 2020. The challenge, originally launched on Twitter in 2019 by Topi Tjukanov, brings together map enthusiasts from around the world to showcase their work and explore the plethora of options in map-making. In that first year, we went all out and submitted a map for every day. In 2020, however, we took a different approach and explored new map-making tools and techniques. Ivan Vasilyev, Data Specialist from our Methodology Team reflects on his experience with the challenge.
