Positium is constantly developing and improving Positium Data Mediator and the methodology for processing mobile positioning data (MPD). We are looking for new opportunities to generate even more value from MPD, and we are continuously adapting to changes in mobile phone usage and in mobile operator networks. For this reason, we cooperate with the Mobility Lab of the University of Tartu, STACC, Eliko, and other research organisations. Positium has been a long-time partner of the University of Tartu – we have been acknowledged as the University of Tartu Spin-Off Company 2017.
Current research and development projects
Positium takes part in the UN Global Working Group on Big Data for Official Statistics task teams that tackle the subjects of mobile phone data, big data, and sustainable development goals.
In 2015-2023, together with Software Technology and Applications Competence Center (STACC), Positium participated in the Project EU48684 to analyse methods for processing location big data and how to visualise it. Positium was part of three sub-projects, firstly to refine spatio-temporal accuracy and create mobility models, and secondly to develop methods and tools for intelligent visual analytics, thirdly to create predictive ML models, business process optimization and production efficiency solutions for energy sector.
In 2015–2020, together with Eliko Technology Competence Center (ELIKO), Positium participated in the Smart Road sub-project of Project EU48693. The goal of the project was to develop a sensor system to improve information about streets and roads so that better planning and real-time solutions could be built upon them.
Positium is working with the Mobility Lab of the University of Tartu on an everyday basis under the spin-off contract signed between University of Tartu and Positium. Together we research new aspects of human mobility and publish our methodologies in academic journals.
